NO JOKE AS RIDDLE RISES TO THE HODD HOT SEAT

- By Robin Jones

SIMON Riddle has been given the job of rebuilding Hoddesdon Town following the resignation of joint managers James Halsey and Michael Bardle.

Riddle has been promoted from reserve team boss after the pair quit following Hoddesdon’s 2-1 defeat at St Margaretsbury. The side has also been recently hammered 8-0 at Berkhamstead.

The departure of the pair prompted the walk-out of several senior players, leaving Riddle to assemble a scratch aside for last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at London Colney, using reserve and under 18s players to make up the numbers.

Riddle has been placed in charge of the first team until the end of the season.

● Kevin Heseltine has returned to AFC Bridgnorth as manager following the surprise resignation of Steve Frisby.

Heseltine, who has had previous managerial experience with the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier side, lives just 200 yards from the Crown Meadow ground.

Former player Andy Parker, who took over as chairman at the start of February, said that Heseltine knows the club inside out, including the current squad and youth team set-up, and so his appointment was an easy decision, despite a large number of applicants for the vacancy.

Parker said: “We’re delighted to have him here and excited for the future.”

Ending what was his second spell in charger, Frisby quit Bridgnorth after just two months after criticising his players for not turning up for training sessions.
