RAVENS FLY ON EXTRA SPIRIT

BROMLEY 1 WREXHAM Hanlan 66 (pen) 1 Jennings 52

- By Matt Badcock

WREXHAM let another lead slip as ten-man Bromley came from behind to take a point through Brandon Hanlan’s penalty.

It’s becoming a familiar tale for the Red Dragons as they had to settle for a 17th draw of the season, despite going ahead through James Jennings’ glanced header early in the second half after home defender Roger Johnson had been sent off before the break.

“We take the lead, fairly comfortable, and then concede,” Davies said.

“The opportunity Marcus Kelly had before the penalty was a big turning point. Put that away and I think we go on and win the game.”

George Porter whistled a volley past the post after a lovely move from Bromley, while David Gregory made a brilliant double save to keep out Chris Holroyd at the other end.

The big talking point came on 44 minutes when ex-Wolves defender Johnson lunged in on Sam Wedgbury in the middle of the pitch. It incensed the visitors and referee David Rock, who had both sides scratching their heads with some other decisions through the game, flashed a straight red card. Within seven minutes of the break, Wrexham were ahead. Marcus Kelly clipped in a free-kick where Jennings rose high and flicked the ball with his head into the far corner.

Nice build-up play then sent Kelly in behind where Gregory was out quickly to deny him. Bromley went down the other end and equalised from the spot when substitute Omar Bugiel went shoulder to shoulder with Wedgbury. Hanlan fired in.

Nicky Deverdics was kept out by a strong Gregory hand, Kelly curled onto the crossbar and Jonathan Franks’ cross was diverted onto the post, but Wrexham couldn’t find the way through again.

Bromley boss Neil Smith said: “We didn’t settle for a point. The team spirit we have is worth another person.”
