The Pitmen are buried by rampant Albion

- By Callum Bradke

WITTON dominated from start to finish as The Albion stopped two consecutive defeats turning into three.

The hosts started the game on form as Rob Hopley scored with his and Albion’s first chance on goal.

Hopley spun on the spot and released a powerful effort with his left foot and Pitmen goalkeeper James Wren simply could not get a hand to the ball.

Albion instantly tried to double their lead with James Foley’s right-footed effort saved by the legs of Wren, and Will Jones jumped at the far post only to head the ball straight into the arms of the keeper.

Witton kept their foot firmly on the gas as they tried to put Tuesday’s home 3-2 defeat to Halesown Town behind them, and the hosts were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute.

Steve Tames stayed cool to convert from the spot, sending

Wren the wrong way to double Albion’s lead.

Witton continued to dominate right up until half-time, creating more chances and leaving the Pitmen scratching their heads as to how they were only two goals behind.

But Hednesford started the second half in much quicker fashion than the first, although they still failed to create any real chances that threatened Calvin Hare’s goal.

And the Albion soon grew back into the game, restoring the flow of opportunites, and Hopley made one of them count as he bagged his second and Witton’s third goal of the afternoon to round off a comefortable win.
