Rebels shake off Harness to win

- By Alex Alexandrou

SLOUGH TOWN scored an important victory in their sixth away game in succession to set them up nicely for the Easter Monday derby against Chesham, when they will finally turn out at Arbour Park.

In front of a bumper Good Friday crowd bolstered by fans from many different clubs eager to watch a match on the first day of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, supporters were treated to an entertaining match despite the persistent rain.

The Rebels started off the brighter and forced a number of excellent saves from home goalkeeper Nathan Harness, notably from Manny Williams.

Good midfield battles went on between the Blues’ Mano Langlais and Ty Ward and Scott Davies and Lee Togwell for Slough.

And it was Togwell who broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a scrappy goal.

The Rebels continued in the ascendency for the rest of the half, denied time and again by Harness, but the Blues defence was breached again just before half-time when Manny Williams scrambled a second for the visitors.

The weather and the pitch worsened considerably in the second half but both teams continued to play attacking football with Dunstable’s Andrew Osei-Bonsu going on a number of driving runs without end product.

The home defence stood firm with a number of vital interceptions made by John Sonuga and Daniel Triff and if the Rebels bypassed them they were thwarted by the inspired Harness, who twice denied Perry Coles.

But just before the final whistle, the home defence was unable to clear a cross into the box and Togwell scored his second with a low shot.

“We were very professional – for the majority of the time we looked to play in the right areas,” said Rebels co-boss Jon Underwood.
