EBBSFLEET U v DOVER ATH

-

■Athletic CHRIS KINNEAR’S Dover haven’t been flipping through the summer holiday brochures yet – and the Whites boss wouldn’t have it any other way.

Their game against Tranmere was called off on Friday but at kick-off tomorrow they occupy the final play-off spot and are two points ahead of AFC Fylde.

Opponents Ebbsfleet can still make the top seven and Kinnear is expecting a close-fought Kent derby.

“It’s a local derby between two committed sides that want to do well,” he said. “(Ebbsfleet manager) Daryl McMahon played here for me, so no doubt both managers have watched the opposition a lot and it should be an interesting game between two sides that are ambitious.

“I like the end of the season when it’s tight like this. The last few seasons we have had something to play for at the end and I’d rather that than be stuck in mid-table thinking about our holidays. Our lads have always had to keep going right up to the end of the season.”

Fleet also had their Good Friday game, against Eastleigh, postponed. While finishing in the play-off places is more than possible – they are seven points behind Dover with two games in hand – boss McMahon thinks a more realistic target is next season for a more sustained promotion push.

He told Kent Online: “We’ve had a really good season and we can look back on many games and think ‘we could have won that one’ like anyone can but the last eight games will show us a lot about us preparing for next season.”
