WALKER: THAT’S MY BEST YET

-

“I HAD EIGHT PEOPLE OVER TO SEE ME SO I’M HAPPY FOR THEM TO SEE THAT. HOPEFULLY THE GAFFER WILL PICK ME MORE TIMES”

TOM WALKER reckons his wonderstrike on his England C debut is probably the best goal that he has ever scored. The Salford City winger announced his arrival on the international stage in some style with a sweet strike to level the scores at 2-2. It even caught the eye of his employers, with Ammies’ jointowner Gary Neville tweeting the goal to his four million followers. “I caught it quite sweet and as soon as it flew off my boot I felt it could be in,” Walker said. “I saw the keeper dive past it and thankfully it went in. “I’d probably say it’s one of the best goals I’ve scored this season, it’s up there with the best. I scored a good goal at Southport and I didn’t think I’d score one better but this one tops it. “To score for your country, or even represent your country, at any level is a massive achievement and I’m really happy. “I had eight people over to see me so I’m really happy for them to see that. It’s been a really good trip, I’ve really enjoyed it and hopefully the gaffer will pick me more times.” Now an England international, he’ll be in good company alongside Neville – Gary and Phil, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt at Salford ahead of the first season in Non-League’s top flight. “It’s been a great season,” the 22year-old said. “Obviously managed to win the league with Salford, get called-up for England – I couldn’t ask for a better year. Hopefully we can get progress as well next year in the National League.”
