LIONS’ PROMOTION IS THE AIM FOR GARNER

-

SCOTT Garner says it was his desire to win promotion back to the top-flight which was the motivation behind his move to Guiseley, writes AIDAN JONES.

The 28-year-old defender was part of Billy Heath’s FC Halifax Town side which won through the National League North play-offs in 2016-17 and helped the Shaymen consolidate their position in the top tie last term.

Now, he is hoping to repeat the feat with the Lions, who have lofty ambitions under new boss Marcus Bignot after their were relegated in the last campaign.

“Promotion has got to be the aim,” Garner told The

NLP. “My last three seasons in Conference North have gone play-off semi-final, play-off semi-final and then we were the play-off winners, so it would be great to do that again.

“I’m motivated to do everything within my powers to make that happen because it would be so good to win promotion in that way again!

“I still even watch the videos from the pitch invasion today from that day, so if I could recreate that, it would be a dream.”

Garner signed a new deal with the Shaymen last season but cited Halifax’s move up full-time football and Guiseley’s decision to revert to part-time as the reason for his move to Nethermoor Park.

He added: “I got on really well with Billy [Heath] and when the new gaffer came in a lot of things changed, like going full-time which was not something I had in mind and it was difficult to work with that situation.

“I’m craving that feeling to go and win promotion again, it’s the best feeling in the world. I am more excited to go down a level to try and win promotion again, that’s my target. So I am very pleased with the way things turned out in that respect.”
