IT’S A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER!
SOUTHERN LEAGUE AWARDS PRESENTATION
IT WAS a weekend of celebration when the Southern Football League hosted its 2018 Conference event at the Mercure Grand Hotel in Bristol last week.
The League’s AGM took place last Saturday morning, followed by the Presentation Dinner that evening.
The AGM saw several rule changes being approved, while the constitution for the 2018-19 season could only be approved in principle with the appeals to the Football Association of Banbury United, Fleet Town and Hednesford Town on proposed restructure placements not taking place until tomorrow (Monday).
Any changes in the event of successful appeals would then be approved following recommendations of the FA Leagues Committee.
Following the addition of the new Step 3 league, more clubs were in attendance than usual, while two new directors were appointed to serve as representatives of the new Premier Division Central; Maurice Dorrington, of Biggleswade Town, and Stephen Hyde, of Stourbridge.
After an election, Simon Gardener (Farnborough), David Knight (Basingstoke Town), David Martin (Dorchester Town) and Pete Saxby (Weymouth) were elected to serve on the board alongside David Bissex (Paulton Rovers) and Gary Clarke (St Ives Town).
The evening was well attended by member clubs where winners were acknowledged for their achievements during the 2017-18 season.
Among the guests were Ady Barkess (Hereward Sports), Gordon Burke (Frank Whittle Partnership), Martin Cassidy (The Footy Factory), Mark Harris (Northern Premier League), Jim Hill (The Football Association), Mark Ives (The Football Association), Brian Lee (The National League), Ray Lewis (The Football Association), Nick Robinson (Isthmian League), Andrew Scott (Bostik Limited), Mark Taylor (Mark Taylor Marketing Limited) and Clive Timmins (Bostik Limited).
Stand-up comedian Tank Sherman provided the entertainment with a string of amusing jokes and stories to complete a successful evening and event to remember.
