HORNETS ARE CREATING A BUZZ

-

HEBBURN Town manager Scott Oliver believes new signing Andrew Stephenson can help the club achieve their goals over the coming years.

The two-time FA Vase winner became the latest big name to join the Northern League Division One newcomers last week.

He follows the likes of South Shields trio Louis Storey, Luke Sullivan and Graeme Armstrong in joining the ambitious Hornets.

Oliver was delighted to add the former Marske United midfielder to his squad and is hopeful that he can help lead his side to success.

“I don’t think we have made a bigger signing,” said Oliver.

“It’s hard to say he is the biggest but we have been back and forth to get this one done and over the line.

“You don’t expect it to be easy to sign players of his calibre but it helped that we knew he wanted to come.

“From a football point of view, he has won everything there is to win, if not twice.

“That is our remit, to get somewhere along those lines in the next couple of years so if you are to achieve your goals, you need to bring people in that have done it. It’s another exciting one for the club.”

There have been rumours that Oliver will add more new faces to his squad ahead of the new season.

A number of big-name players have been linked with a move to the South Tyneside club but the Hornets boss insisted that he would only sign players that will fit into the squad.

“It is hard to say if we will add more,” he added. “Every manager wants, and will push, for one more but I think the board are sick of me!

“It’s hard because the phone is going and people want to come. Every day you have these big-hitters saying they want to come but they have to fit in to your team.”
