DARYL’S DELIGHT AFTER ADAMS’ STUNNER

- By Steve Tervet

NEW signing Ebou Adams scored a brilliant goal in Ebbsfleet’s victory over League One neighbours Gillingham.

The former Leyton Orient loanee, signed from Norwich City this summer, hooked a volley into the net with his back to goal at the end of an intricate Fleet passing move on the edge of the Gills box.

Midfielder Adams, who turned down Orient to join the Kent club earlier this summer, also laid on Ebbsfleet’s first goal on a day when he showed why Daryl McMahon worked so hard to bring him in.

Adams picked up the ball down the righthand side and crossed for Sean Shields to finish low under Gills keeper Tom Hadler with 31 minutes gone.

It had been an even contest up to that point.

Shields forced a smart save from Hadler after Jack Powell’s shot had deflected into his path before Elliott List extended goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore at the other end.

After Shields had broken the deadlock, Corey Whitely surged down the right and was only denied by a flying save from Hadler.

List headed straight at Ashmore from Luke O’Neill’s cross but three minutes after half-time came Adams’ stunning strike.

He was involved at the start of the move and continued his run into the box when Powell collected Danny Kedwell’s pass and dinked in a cross.

By now Ebbsfleet’s tails were up and they could have added to their tally.

Kedwell and Sam Magri powered shots wide and new signing Jack King went close with a header before Ashmore pulled off two late saves to keep Gillingham out.
