JUST LUKE AT THE IMPACT HE’S MADE!

- By Nick Loughlin

LUKE JAMES made it two goals in two friendlies since returning to Hartlepool United.

The striker, on loan at Barrow from Forest Green last season, signed for Pools ten days ago and followed up his midweek strike against Shildon with the only goal against Spennymoor.

The opposition finished just outside the play-off places last season in National League North, but aim to go one better this term. They gave Pools a competitive test at the Brewery Field.

James turned in from close range after a header from Andrew Davies was kept out by keeper Matthew Gould.

The new shot-stopper was also beaten by a rising drive from midfielder Josh Hawkes, but the ball crashed back off the inside of the post.

Moors did have the ball in the net on 64 minutes, a low angled finish from Stephen Brogan beating Scott Loach, but the effort was flagged offside.

Central midfield pairing Liam Noble and Nicky Featherstone were prominent and prompted Pools.

Noble tried his luck with a free-kick from 25-yards out. His clipped effort went over the defensive wall and against the frame of the goal.

A mix-up between Loach and Myles Anderson allowed Rob Ramshaw in, but Loach was alert enough to divert the ball away with an outstretched leg to preserve Pools’ advantage.
