WOOD IN A RAGE AMIDST FERRIER REP ROW

- By Jon Couch

BOREHAM WOOD are ready to go to war with the new agent of striker Morgan Ferrier amid claims of ‘bullying’ and ‘manoeuvring a transfer’ to a Football League club.

The National League play-off finalists say they agreed the transfer of the 23-year-old to Tranmere Rovers after they activated a £35,000 release clause in his contract.

As well as that, the buying club had to match Wood’s sell-on fee and addon expectations, which Rovers did.

Wood claim that Ferrier turned down a move to the newly-promoted League Two side to stay with the Hertfordshire club provided he could have “more responsibility in the dressing room” because he felt it would “improve his game”.

Wood then say that League One outfit AFC Wimbledon offered £35,000, with a 25 per cent sell-on fee, which was considerably less than the Tranmere offer and one which they ‘respectfully declined’.

Wood also claim that manager Luke Garrard received an “aggressive call” from the unnamed representative serving the club 14 days’ notice for ‘breach of contract’ and stating he would ‘open up a can of worms’ if they did not comply with the demands of a £35,000 transfer fee plus 20 per cent sell-on.

Garrard then claims the agent labelled both himself and chairman Danny Hunter as “bent”.

Concluding a lengthy club statement released yesterday, the club said: “We wish to make it clear, that we feel absolutely compelled to take this young agent and perhaps the company he works for all the way to the high court, to the FA, to the National League committee, to the PFA and beyond – as we want to emphasise the need for these type of people to be regulated.

“We absolutely apologise to the football world for airing our dirty washing in public.

“But we believe that there is the need to bring this type of behaviour into the public domain, as it is important and it’s high time that all Non-League clubs began standing up to this agent/intermediary intimidation. It’s now time that these unscrupulous people – as it’s not all agents – are taken to task.”
