The Non-League Football Paper

We’re stabilised and re-energised

-

WELL, maybe Non-League football isn’t so bad after all.

My team Leyton Orient have been able to detoxify, rebuild and regroup in a league we had never played in in our 130-year history. Away from the EFL we now hear no evil and see no evil malpractice that left the fans as the sole defenders of the club.

Out of our relegation and our time in the High Court has come a change of ownership that promises to restore the club to its former glory. What would I define as glory for Leyton Orient? The simple matter of selling over 3,800 season tickets for the coming season for a start.

The current crop of players appear close-knit and have shown resolve to turn fortunes, having started last season poorly and misguided under the management of Steve Davis.

Turned around by Justin Edinburgh, I am hoping we achieve promotion but there can be no illusion more money is filtering into the National League.

Missing out on Ebou Adams to Ebbsfleet United proves just that. Even the EFL parachute payments can’t allay our financial losses. But at least with this board in charge, they are sure to be minimal.

Orient fans know only too well how it is to have an owner who goes helter skelter for promotion only to fall flat on their face. And I do feel we are an example of how the National League can help re-centre a club in freefall.

It would be terrible for unjustified riches to enter the league. See you at Salford City! JACK LEANING, London E10
