COLLS TAME SORRY RAMS

Red hot Pontefract hit seven past Rammy

- By Hugo Varley

Pontefract Colleries continued their impressive pre-season form with a thumping 7-1 win over Ramsbottom.

The Colls, who beat a young Huddersfield side 11-1 last weekend, showed no sign of letting up as they put in a performance that will leave their Northern Premier League Division One East opponents this season quaking in their boots.

The home fans in the main stand had barely had time to take their seats before the deadlock was broken by virtue of a Mikey Dunn strike, before Jake Picton doubled the lead moments later.

Although Ramsbottom endured a torrid afternoon at the Harratt Nissan Stadium, they enjoyed one bright moment when Dom Marie exquisitely chipped the keeper to halve the deficit.

Unfortunately for the Rams it was one way traffic from then on in, as Eli Hey and Vaughan Redford grabbed braces before Adam Knight got in on the act to round off the goalscoring late on

Farsley Celtic also looked in good nick ahead of the new season as the The Villagers ran out 5-0 winners at Colne.

Remarkably the two teams went into half-time level, as the home side put in a spirited display to frustrate Farsley.

However Nathan Turner’s deadlock breaking strike three minutes into the second half caused the floodgates to creak open.

As the visitors began to calve open the Colne defence with increasing ease, Paul Walker, Nathan Cartman, Will Hayhurst and Matiuse Britton all got their names on the score sheet.

A Connor McDonagh hattrick inspired Swindon

Supermarine to a 4-2 victory over Cirencester Town in an entertaining encounter.

Cirencester took the lead early on through a well taken Alan Griffin finish before McDonagh scored twice in as many minutes to turn the game on its head midway through the first half.

On 55 minutes fans at the Corinium Stadium were treated to a superb spectacle as Ben Whitehead levelled the scores with a belting long range effort but parity was only restored for a matter of minutes as Supermarine’s summer signing Stewart Fleetwood put his side back in front.

McDonagh ensured he would be going home with the match ball late on as he finished well to put the result beyond doubt.

Bradley Grayson also fired a hat trick as Buxton continued their pre-season with an impressive 5- 0 victory at Mossley.

The former Doncaster Rovers striker grabbed his first on 25 minutes when he beat Jan Budz with a clinical finish, before the frontman doubled his tally just before half time by finishing off a brilliant team move to round the keeper and tap the ball into an empty net.

Grayson then completed his treble in second half injury time as the Bucks left Seel Park with the wind in their sails.

Newly promoted sides Haringey Borough and Corinthian-Casuals both continued their preparations for the new Bostik Premier season by picking up victories. Haringey ran out 4-2 winners against Barton Rovers, while Casuals beat a spirited Staines Town side 2-0. Meanwhile, AFC Rushden & Diamonds looked in fine fettle ahead of the start of the new campaign as they ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Bishop’s Stortford, Dorking Wanderers eased to a 4-1 victory against last season’s Combined Counties League winners Westfield and Beaconsfield fought hard to win 4-2 at Uxbridge.
