Sub Andre pounces for Pilgrims

- By Rob Singleton

SUBSTITUTE Andre Johnson was the match-winning hero for Boston United.

His 76th-minute strike proved decisive.

On the balance of play it always looked likely that one goal would be enough.

There was little to choose between the sides in a closely-contested opening half.

Of the limited chances that materialised, it was Boston who had the better of them. On 14 minutes from a short corner, Andi Thanoj saw a curling effort pushed away by keeper Joe Green.

And four minutes before the break Adam Marriott had a shot blocked.

In between, Guiseley enjoyed spells of attacking supremacy without being able to find a breakthrough – notably with home goalkeeper George Willis twice doing well to punch clear.

On 44 minutes the visitors had an opportunity but Will Hatfield blazed too high from a 20-yard free-kick.

For the visitors, Paul Clayton and Reece Thompson worked hard in attack but got little change out of home defenders Spencer Harris and Ryan Qualter.

But at the other end, one moment of magic proved telling.

Fourteen minutes from time Marriott flicked a pass through for Johnson to burst clear and fire past the helpless Green. STAR MAN: Nathan Arnold (Boston United) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
