IT’S A FLOODY NIGHTMARE!
Water damage forces Chester to postpone games
WATER disaster! Chester may have had their spirits dampened by an 8-1 drubbing by Blyth Spartans last weekend – but that’s nothing compared to this floody mess at the Swansway.
The Blues have already been forced to postpone Tuesday’s visit of Kidderminster Harriers and yesterday’s clash with FC United after heavy rain last Sunday night caused “extenallowing sive damage to critical areas of the stadium and its infrastructure”.
Now the National League North clash with Kiddy, rescheduled for this Tuesday, has also fallen victim of the water damage, prompting National League chiefs to inspect the stadium on Thursday morning,
Chester have assured sup- porters they are “working around the clock” to ensure football can return to the stadium as soon as possible and have been working closely with the Safety Advisory Group, who ultimately have the final decision.
A club statement read: “Until such a time that the critical safety systems are restored, the club would be in breach of its safety certificate to open any area of the ground a fixture to take place. Opening unaffected sections only is not an option.
“Work to dry out areas affected by flooding continues and the restoring the electrical supply will commence once it has been deemed safe which we hope will be in the coming days.
“Specialist examination is currently being undertaken to estimate repairs required and the timeline needed for the stadium to be safely opened.”
