JUNIOR’S JUMPING FOR JOY!

- By Mach Hewitt

ADRAMATIC 88thminute winner from Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe helped Bromley secure their first win of the season at the expense of fast-starting Gateshead.

The Colchester loanee struck with a header off the underside of the crossbar after captain Roger Johnson had flicked on George Porter’s long throw

“I’m delighted for the players and I thought we deserved it,” beamed Ravens boss Neil Smith.

“We played better last week but while a draw would have probably been a fair result, the hard work they’ve put in this season meant I thought the victory was deserved.”

A rather drab first halfbrought little in the way of action bar half chances either end for Gateshead’s JJ O’Donnell and Bromley striker Omar Bugiel, while referee Simeon Lucas had to be replaced by the fourth official at half-time after taking a ball to the face at close range.

The Heed, however, stepped things up after the break but despite creating the better opportunities, lacked ruthlessness in the final third.

Their best chance of the half came courtesy of a neat one-two between Luke Armstrong and Tom White but Armstrong could only head into the side netting when it seemed easier to score.

But with the game seemingly headed for a tame stalemate, Bromley launched one final attack and clinched it at the death – Porter finding the head of defender Johnson and Ogedi-Uzokwe reacting first to head home.

Heed boss Steve Watson was disappointed with the nature of his side’s performance, commenting: “Our quality was poor today, we had plenty of chances to play football but the quality today was well below the standards the lads have set themselves.”
