SONNI STRIKES DENIES HOSTS

Hornets held as Coleman drops Anchor

- By Jeff Bowron

HEBBURN TOWN dropped their first points of the season but remain unbeaten after a 2-2 draw at home to Stockton Town. Hebburn came from behind to lead at the break, only to pegged back by Sonni Coleman’s strike. Mikey Roberts’ penalty had given Stockton the lead midway through the first period, before the Hornets provided a late sting. Ben Dibb-Fuller rifled home from just outside the box with a great strike and then Scott Wallace finished off a good move. Both Hebburn goals came in the final five minutes of the first half, before Coleman’s 51st minute shot into the bottom corner earned the Anchors a share of the spoils. Hebburn’s fellow promoted side Blyth AFC moved to the top of the table as they made it four wins from four following a 2-0 win at North Shields. The Robins are still looking for their first point, with first half goals from Bobby Taylor and Michael Chilton seeing the Braves home. Bishop Auckland and Consett maintained their 100 per cent records. Bishops beat Ryhope CW 5-2 at Heritage Park. Callum Hope scored twice for Auckland, with James Ellis claiming a brace for Ryhope. Promoted Whickham are still without a goal or a point after a 1-0 defeat at Consett. Danny Craggs hit a late winner. Dunston UTS made it ten points from 12 with a 3-2 win at Sunderland RCA. Shildon have also opened with three wins and a draw, with the Railwaymen beating Newcastle Benfield 3-2 at Dean Street. Whitley Bay, hammered 8-0 at Dunston in midweek, lost 2-0 at home to West Auckland Town. Nathan Fisher scored both Town goals. Seaham Red Star and Guisborough Town both picked up their first points following 2-1 away wins. Second half goals from Paul Gardiner and Warren Byrne saw Seaham triumph at Newton Aycliffe. Lee Bythway and Nathan Steel scored straight after the break to give Guisborough victory at Ashington, in a game that saw three late red cards, two for the Colliers.
