BROWN IS ON TARGET WIN AGAIN AS GREENS

Gray is thrilled at win

- By David Ballheimer

HENDON continued their unbeaten start to the new season with a victory over the previous league leaders Farnborough.

And manager James Gray admitted the success did not come easy against the highflying Boro.

“It was hard work,” he said. “We put in a real shift, but we had to. I am delighted to get out of the game with three points.”

In the second minute, a short back-header from Howard Hall was latched onto by Michael Fernandes, but Danny Boness was quickly off his line to block his shot.

Chances were at a premium and Hendon’s first clear chance came after 25 minutes when Lenny Pidgeley made a good save to keep out an effort from Taishan Griffith. The ball broke to the other end and Boness made an equally good save to deny Jefferson Louis.

In the 34th minute Hendon took the lead. Marvin Morgan did the hard work down the left and his low driven cross eluded Pidgeley and fell to Cole Brown. Taking a touch to steady himself, Cole drilled the ball off a defender on the goalline and into the net.

Kurtis Cumberbatch had a great chance to equalise just before the break, when a rebound off Romario Jonas fell to him, but he was off target with his shot.

Stephane Ngamvoulou was superb in midfield and, early in the second half, he saw his shot saved by Pidgeley.

In the 65th minute, Ngamvoulou did well with a powerful run and he set up

Morgan, who passed the ball onto Laste Dombaxe who curled in a beautiful strike from 22 yards.

Farnborough had a couple of penalty claims turned down and Luke Robertson had a couple of efforts saved by Boness.

Greens substitute Ricardo German nearly made it 3–0 with a powerful drive, but the ball cannoned off the foot of a post.

With ten minutes to go, Farnborough got back into the game, thanks to two of their substitutes.

Connor Calcutt’s pass invited Connor Cannon to score with an angled drive.

Bradley Simms should have done better with a great chance to level matters in the 88th minute, firing over the bar from a great position and then Gianni Crichlow had two chances to make it 3–1.

With 90 seconds of five minutes stoppage time left, Cullen powered a header towards goal, but it was to no avail.
