JACK’S THE LAD IN SHOCK

- By Andrew Lawton

JACK Holland ended Chipstead’s hopes of an FA Cup run for another season as he fired plucky Corinthian to a stunning 1-0 away victory.

The visitors hit the crossbar in the goalless first half, while the home side had chances for Sam Bell, Sam Clayton and Luke Elliott.

Chipstead continued to dominate possession but failed to find that clear-cut opening as Dan Moody rattled the bar with another shot and Elliott fired into the side netting.

Corinthian substitute Holland then changed the game as he burst clear and drove the ball past Michael Sibley in the home goal and inside the far post.

Meanwhile, a late equaliser from Jon Davoile ensured Wantage

Town will have another shot at Slimbridge as their FA Cup tie ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Slimbridge took the lead against the run of play on 36 minutes when Ewen Dunbar skipped past the full-back and found Will Hawes to tuck the ball in the far corner.

Slimbridge should have gone into half-time 2-0 up when Tornado Bello broke through, but Curtis Meare got a leg to his shot.

Wantage’s Bradley Cox headed against the bar after the break with Cox forcing Eric Edge into more saves to keep his side ahead.

But the home side’s resilient defence was eventually broken with ten minutes remaining as Connor Mattimore slipped down the right and his cross fell to Davoile to fire home. Elsewhere, Hythe

Town had to be patient to break down a stubborn Worthing United defence, eventually winning 3-0 at Reachfields to book their spot in the next round.

Hythe piled on the pressure but found it difficult to get the vital goals – they had to wait until the 73rd minutes to break the deadlock through Zak Ansah. A second came only three minutes later as Jack Sammoutis got onto a loose ball and placed his shot in the corner.

The third, and Ansah’s second, came nine minutes from time with a sublime lob.

Didcot Town and Aylesbury will contest a replay after a scrappy game ended 1-1.

After a dull and uneventful opening, the Moles took the lead when Bruno Brito chased a hopeful long ball and then fired in a dipping volley.

Didcot responded in the second half with an improved performance and levelled from the spot.

The referee spotted a handball when a long throw came into the box and Matt Woodley stepped up and slammed home the penalty.

Ross MacDonald should have sent Didcot through late on, but he scuffed his effort. Cray Wanderers and Rusthall will need a replay to decide who makes it through after their cup tie ended in a 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane.

Rusthall, against the run of play, took the lead in the 39th minute when Ryan Waterman’s through-ball found Sam Murray who finished with aplomb. Cray levelled in the 56th minute when Karl Dent’s left-wing free kick was glanced into his own net by Waterman. Horsham YMCA stunned higher league opponents Ashford

United 2-0 as Dan Mobsby and Sam Schaaf scored within three minutes of each other.

There were also away victories for Marlow who beat Kidlington and Berkhamstead who saw off Thame United 2-0 to progress to the first qualifying round. Cirencester Town and Sittingbourne both made no mistakes against Windsor and Bearstead respectively.
