Lawrie’s double delights Dabbers

- By Steve Sharman

A BRACE from James Lawrie helped Nantwich to three points against Whitby Town on an overcast afternoon at the Weaver Stadium.

Lawrie’s double was added to by superb finishes from Joe Mwasile and Nathan Cotterell to put four past the Seasiders, despite Junior Mondal’s well-taken penalty.

Lawrie gave Nantwich the lead after Callum Saunders’ initial shot was blocked into the path of the attacking midfielder, who expertly curled one from twenty-five yards to give the Dabbers the lead.

Lawrie added to the Dabbers’ lead after the break when Saunders’ cross was deflected into the path of Lawrie, who blasted one past Adam McHugh on the halfvolley.

Whitby were awarded a penalty after 58 minutes which Mondal tucked home.

Mwasile restored the two-goal cushion as he weaved his way through the Whitby defence before slotting home under the legs of McHugh.

The Dabbers completed the goalscoring when Cotterell unleashed a cross-cumshot that dipped over the head of McHugh to cap the victory.
