WHIELDEN ENSURES KEY WIN

- By Sacha Clayton

CHASETOWN registered their first win of the season with a 4-2 away win against a limp

Droylsden team at the Butchers Arms.

The visitors took the lead after just three minutes when Daniel Cocks’ cross was unusually chested home by George Carter.

But the home side levelled 20 minutes later through Sefton Gonzales.

It didn’t last long though when Chasetown regained their lead just before half time when Jacob Lovatt headed home from James O’Neill’s long throw.

Jack Langston made it three for the visitors from the penalty spot after Cocks had been brought down before substitute Brandon Zibaka gave the home side a glimmer of hope by firing home a Luke Daly cross.

The visitors secured all three points in the last minute of added time when William Whielden broke from inside his own half to slot past Chris Thompson.

Goals from Michael Grogan and Jamie Rainford ensured that

Widnes bounced back from Monday's loss to Kidsgrove Athletic with a 2-0 home win over Glossop North End.

Widnes, who had four men sent off in the defeat against Kidsgrove, started the brighter and could have been a couple of goals to the good early on had Glossop custodian Russ Saunders not been on-form.

And the Whites took the lead on the half hour mark as Grogan, who saw red on Monday, guided George Webster's wonderfully weighted cross into the far corner.

It was comfortable in the end for Widnes with former Glossop striker Jamie Rainford adding the hosts second on 63 minutes, turning home Chris Lomax's cut-back from close-range.

Elsewhere, Leek Town recorded a high scoring 40 win over Ramsbottom

United courtesy of two goals either side of halftime.

Striker Robert Stevenson gave The Blues the lead on 16 minutes after beating the offside trap to lob the keeper for the opener.

In similar fashion Dan Trickett-Smith doubled the advantage ten minutes later to shoot low under the keeper from 15 yards out.

Substitute Jordan Johnson gave the manager something to think about by notching the Leek third with a looping header over the onrushing Sam Ashton in goal.

Chadwick ensured a comfortable win from the spot kick after Stevenson was upended to go 4-0 up and earn the three points.

FC Trafford clinched an impressive 5-1 against Skelmersdale United with a second-half hattrick from hitman Matty Bryan.

Danny Wilkins handed Trafford a 1-0 lead, before substitute Aaron Burns doubled the lead on 55 minutes with a stunning strike from distance.

Bryan added to the visitors’ misery with a fine strike following some more superb build-up play from Burns on 66 minutes.

And only seven minutes later Bryan doubled his tally for the match with another impressive effort from the Trafford forward.

Bryan made it five to secure his hat-trick on 89 minutes, before Sean Yeldrem prevented Matt Cooper from earning a clean sheet with a lastgasp consolation goal.

Lastly, Clitheroe’s winless start to the season continued with a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Colwyn Bay.

It could have been a different tale for the Lancashire side as Zehn Mohammed had the goal at ransom but he couldn’t convert a free header from a corner inside two minutes.

But the Seagulls took the lead when James Barrigan’s well struck shot flew low past the keeper to go one ahead after half time.

And Ethan Devine secured the three points late into added time with a curling effort into the top corner from Josh Brizell’s pass.
