Railwaymen are rocked by Ryan

RYAN CARR scored the only goal of the game on the brink of half-time as North Shields battled to a hardearned 1-0 victory at home to Shildon. The visitors started well, with Jamie Harwood’s header hitting the crossbar from Keith Graydon’s sixth-minute corner. Just six minutes later, Gary Ormston’s header was cleared off the line at the other end. Curtis Coppen and Paul Robinson both went close during the opening 45 minutes, before Carr found the net on the brink of halftime to put the Robins ahead. Gary Day was then denied by a superb fingertip save from Shildon keeper Shaun Newbrook, who produced another stunning save just a minute later. Graydon fired wide of the post in the 86th minute before Greg Purvis produced a solid save to deny the Railwaymen midfielder. Sunderland RCA picked up a 3-1 win at Newcastle Benfield . Benfield skipper Mark Turnbull. But their lead was short-lived as Josh Scott fired home an equaliser from outside the box. Dominic Moan shot the visitors back in front before grabbing his second from 25 yards with 15 minutes remaining. West Auckland surrendere­d a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Stockton Town. Jordan Robinson’s secondminu­te header put Stockton ahead, but Thomas Price’s third goal in three games levelled matters. Adam Mitchell’s 20-yard effort five minutes after the break put the visitors ahead for the first time before Nathan Fisher’s freekick extended the lead. Adam Nicholson’s headed reduced the deficit in the 77th minute before Chris Stockton pulled his namesakes level with seven minutes to go. In Division Two, league leaders Chester-le-Street lost 1-0 at home to Heaton Stanningto­n. Connor Campbell’s late penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides. Jarrow recovered from a goal down to beat Esh Winning 2-1, while Dean Thexton scored twice as Willington beat Thornaby 2-0.
