Efficient German downs Poole

- By David Ballheimer

HENDON joined a phalanx of clubs on 14 points at the top of the table after they beat Poole Town thanks to a solitary goal from Ricardo German, his tenth of the season already.

German might have scored in the fourth minute when set-up by Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick but Luke Cairney made a good save with his legs.

Five minutes later, the two Hendon men were involved in what’s proved to be the game’s only goal. It was Hippolyte-Patrick who won the spot kick and German did the rest with a powerful strike.

Franklyn Clarke saw his shot saved by Danny Boness while Cairney was equal to a 25-yard drive from Hendon newcomer Reece Mitchell.

On the stroke of half time, Boness produced an excellent save to deny Jake Smeeton.

But the game did not end well for the Poole substitute as he left the field midway through the second half with what appeared to be a nasty shoulder injury.

By then, Poole were getting frustrated when they had very loud shouts for a penalty turned down following a goal-mouth scramble at a corner.

Chances came and went at both ends in the final quarter but Hendon survived to take the lion’s share of the spoils.
