JACK’S ON THE SPOT TO STRIPE THE TIGERS

GRANTHAM TOWN 1 HYDE UNITED 0

- By Pat Nixon

A LATE penalty from Jack McGovern gave Grantham victory in a game dominated for long periods by visitors Hyde.

Hyde began strongly but couldn’t break through the Grantham defence.

Matt Watters broke clear for Grantham on 13 minutes but his shot went wide.

Hyde then went close on 21 minutes, but Grantham keeper Theo Richardson saved at full stretch from Astley Mulholland.

Hyde continued to press but Grantham’s defence kept them at arm’s length.

The half ended with Grantham’s Ross Barrows shooting narrowly over from distance.

Grantham began the second half brightly, but Hyde took control again with Tom Platt firing wide on 54 minutes and the same player saw his effort cleared by a Grantham defender nine minutes later.

Grantham substitute Daniel Horton turned well on the edge of the box, but his shot went over.

Hyde forced two late corners and Richardson saved well at the foot of his post before the game was turned on its head on 87 minutes.

Barrows crossed the ball and a Hyde defender handled under pressure. McGovern stepped to score from the spot to give Grantham all three points.
