IT’S A WINN WINN FOR BISHOP BUT CELTIC SHINE

- By Jason Button

BISHOP AUCKLAND 3 WEST ALLOTMENT C 1

NORTHERN League high-flyers Bishop Auckland needed extra-time to beat second division visitors West Allotment Celtic.

Callum Patton opened the scoring for Auckland from the spot before West Allotment equalised though Dean Walker.

Substitute Chris Winn found two goals in extra-time to clinch the tie.

The hosts hit the bar early when a deep freekick was headed towards goal by Kieran Galbraith, only for Finlay Hodgeson to tip his effort against the woodwork.

Following their early pressure it took 11 minutes for Bishops to take the lead. Kyle Fryatt was tripped in the penalty area by Kristian Sands, allowing Patton to score from the spot.

But a shock looked on the cards when Celtic equalised early in the second half – Walker lucky for the ball to fall at his feet before stabbing home.

In the first minute of the second period of extra-time, Bishops found the second goal when Winn did well to cut inside before firing a shot just under the crossbar. And the game was wrapped up when Winn scored again with an impressive improvised effort on the floor with his back to goal from close range following a cross from the left. STAR MAN: Finlay Hodgeson (West Allotment) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
