ROBBIE IS PLOTTING UPWARD COURSE

Back is chuffed by win

- By Greg Plummer

KING’S LYNN TOWN joint manager Robbie Back is only looking upwards.

Goals from Michael Gash, Mike Clunan and Harry Limb put the Linnets fully in control before Giorgio Rasulu netted a late effort.

It was the perfect start for the club’s new management team of Neil Fryatt and Back as Lynn climbed out of the bottom four.

Back said: “The lads did really well again. It’s small steps and, although we gave the ball away too easily at times in the first half, we are improving with every game.

“Had it been 4-1 to us at half-time. I think it would have been fair.

“It is a monkey of our backs getting that first win at home.”

Lynn took the lead in the fifth minute after good linkup play between Ryan Jarvis and Frazer Blake-Tracy allowed the latter to lay the ball on the plate for Gash.

Harry Limb was foiled by visiting goalkeeper Jack Harding down to his left and also placed a header wide as Lynn remained largely in control.

Banbury thought they had equalised midway through the first period when Jack Self's initial shot was brilliantly parried by Alex Street into the path of Ricky John- son, but his effort was ruled out by offside flag.

Gash then planted a peach of a cross from Ryan Hawkins wide of the target while on the stroke of halftime Banbury’s Giorgio Rasulo saw his free-kick deflected onto the woodwork.

Banbury started the second half with a more purpose but any hopes of a

comeback were dashed in the 56th minute after Clunan added a second from the penalty spot following a clumsy challenge.

Four minutes later it was 3-0 after Limb picked up the ball on the left-hand side before making his way into the penalty area to register with a stinging shot.

The dangerous Ravi Shamsi saw his effort come back off the inside of the post for the visitors before Rasulu netted a consolation courtesy of a deflected effort.

Banbury United boss Mike Ford said: “If we are going to keep conceding goals in the manner we are at the minute then it’s going to be a long season. They were very, very poor goals to give away.

“King’s Lynn are probably as good a team as we've played all season but we made it a bit easier for them in the first half.

“They’ve got good players with good experience who played with confidence in the end.” STAR MAN: Ryan Jarvis (King’s L) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
