NOMADS DOWN TOWN TO GO TOP

CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS lead the Welsh Premier League – at least for 24 hours – after a 3-1 win over Carmarthen Town.

Jay Owen fired Connah’s Quay into the lead with a ferocious volley, but that was cancelled out by Liam Thomas after the break.

Andy Owens headed the hosts in front from close range before Ryan Wignall sealed the win.

They replaced The New Saints at the top of the table, but Scott Ruscoe’s men can return to the summit if they beat Cardiff Met.

Barry Town United’s excellent season continued with a 1-0 victory over Aberystwyt­h Town.

Clayton Green’s first Barry goal was enough to send Gavin Chesterfie­ld’s men back to third.

Llanelli Town fell to a fifth consecutiv­e defeat as they were beaten 3-1 by Newtown.

The Reds went ahead through James Loveridge, but Nick Rushton equalised before the break.

Neil Mitchell’s stunning volley put Newtown ahead before Sam Phillips wrapped things up. Bala were 2-1 winners over

Llandudno at Maes Tegid. Stuart J Jones scrambled home a corner before Henry Jones doubled the lead with a close-range finish. Alfons Fosu-Mensah, older brother of Manchester United defender and Fulham loanee Timothy, hit a late consolatio­n.

Cefn Druids and Caernarfon Town drew 1-1, with Neil Ashton and Danny Brookwell scoring for their respective sides.
