HINDLE’S A HINDRANCE TO WHITES’ PROGRESS

- By Jason Burns

IT may have been their longest journey of the season, but Ian Evatt’s Barrow shrugged off the 686-mile round trip with a convincing win at struggling Dover.

Jack Hindle had to sit patiently for an extra hour, but came of the subs bench to bag a brace as the Bluebird’s registered their first away victory of the campaign.

And boss Evatt believes a win on the road was only a matter of time for his young side.

“We have been performing really well and not getting the rub of the green, but today we put it all together today for ninety minutes and I thought their goalkeeper was man of the match for Dover.

“Boreham Wood needed a world-class goal to get something from us and we missed a penalty against Hartlepool, but after creating chance after chance today, we deservedly scored two goals.”

The visitors were almost ahead early with Mitch Walker fingertipping John Rooney’s fine effort around the post.

And Dover’s keeper came to his side’s rescue, clutching Tyler Smith’s low drive after the striker had been found by Luke Carroll-Burgess.

Following the restart, Josh Kay’s immaculate touch and cross found Caroll-Burgess to fire an effort on target, only for Smith to divert the midfielder’s effort just wide.

Walker then beat away Kay’s fierce drive after the break and Athletic’s keeper was relieved to see Connor Brown’s cross find the side netting following a quickly taken free-kick. Defender Diarra went close to scoring on the hour mark, rising highest to meet Mitch Brundle’s ball into the area, only to find Firth in the way. Hindle pounced on Bedsente Gomis’s misplaced pass, but once again was thwarted by a brave Walker block. But the sub made the breakthrough with 20 minutes left, gleefully tapping home after Kay slid Smith’s cross goalwards. And it was almost two following a lighting quick counter attack, but Walker kept the hosts in the game with a fine block to deny Hindle. Firth acrobatically palmed away sub Kadell Daniel’s curling 25yard free kick, but Hindle secured the three points late on, blasting Smith’s pass low into the bottom corner. In spite of some supporters calls to resign, under-fire boss Chris Kinnear is still plotting a route out of the bottom four. “It was very disappointing and we really didn’t play great today,” he said. “All I can do while I am here is work as hard as I can to get results to turn things around and I will keep going until I am told otherwise.” STAR MAN: Jack Hindle (Barrow) ATT: 814 ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ REFEREE: Alan Dale 7/10
