MAGUIRE’S ON FIRE AS SPARTANS HOLD FIRM

- By Jason Button

BLYTH supplied a shock in National League North when they won a tight game against highflying Telford.

Dan Maguire scored in the first half, winger Adam Wrightson with the assist, as Blyth kept a clean sheet in the league for the first time this season.

Telford travelled third in the table, but didn’t start well. Jamie Holmes and Robbie Dale had early chances but were unable to find a way past Max Bramley in goal.

Holmes fired over before Dale’s free-kick was acrobatically saved by Bramley, Nathan Buddle then putting a free header wide.

Just before half-time, after Matthew BarnesHomer had blazed over, it was Spartans who took the lead.

Wrightson found Maguire with an impressive cross that the striker headed home to give Blyth a lead they were not to relinquish.

Maguire came close again before Blyth keeper Peter Jameson was called into action and Telford passed up a trio of golden chances.

Two timely Jordan Watson tackles frustrated the Bucks and then sub Jon Boyle shot wide.

Bramley denied winger Jarrett Rivers from close range with the game in the balance.

Bradley Fewster went close for Blyth, who saw the game out to record a third league win. STAR MAN: Jordan Watson (Blyth Spartans) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
