GUERNSEY STUNNED IN CLASSIC

- By Will Long

JEFF Duah-Kessie’s hattrick helped Phoenix

Sports beat Guernsey 5-3 in a thriller at the Footes Lane Stadium.

Phoenix came from behind twice to grasp three points and now sit third in the Bostik League South East Division.

Guernsey burst into a quickfire two-goal lead after 17 minutes, thanks to William Fazakerley and Matt Loaring before two goals in five minutes midway through the first half from Duah-Kessie and Danny Young levelled the match at the break.

Loaring’s second of the afternoon, with a spectacular first-time volley, smashed Guernsey back in front.

Yet, the lead would last less than ten minutes before Duah-Kessie grabbed his second with another brilliant finish.

The comeback was complete on the 74th minute as Lewis Clark put Phoenix ahead, before Duah-Kessie capped off a fine solo performance by scoring his third to wrapup the points.

Rory Smith scored a late winner as Ramsgate won 1-0 away at

Sittingbourne to help them move up to 11th in the league table.

Smith’s close-range finish in the 86th minute was enough to secure all three points for Ramsgate, after Sittingbourne were reduced to ten men halfway through the second half.

It was Tommie Fagg who saw red for retaliation after 67 minutes, with Sittingbourne largely on top in this all Kentish affair.

But the midfielder’s dismissal enabled Ramsgate to take advantage and after pressuring the Sittingbourne defence, were able to snatch the victory with less than five minutes to play.

Sittingbourne had the better chances in the firsthalf, with a number of penalty appeals being waved away before having Balo Dawodu’s goal-bound effort cleared off the line.

Yet, it was not to be their day.

Ramsgate will now be hoping this hard-fought triumph can give them enough momentum

heading into their FA Cup third-qualifying round fixture against Hemel Hempstead next weekend.

Elsewhere in the league, Three Bridges suffered their sixth defeat of the season after Martin Dynan’s side lost 2-0 at home to East Grinstead Town.

After a goalless firsthalf, substitute O’Shaye Giraud-Hutchinson put East Grinstead ahead early in the second-half.

His 53rd minute goal would remain the difference between the sides until Mitchell Chapman doubled East Grinstead’s advantage late on to secure the points for his side.

And to add salt to Three Bridges’ wounds, Jamie Crellin received his marching orders with five minutes left for a second bookable offence.

In the mid-table clash between Faversham Town and Whitstable Town, the latter emerged with a 2-1 victory at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.

Whitstable raced into an early lead thanks to Louis Sprosen’s 12th minute effort, enough to hold an advantage at the half-time break.

Whitstable started the second-half in much the same fashion as the first and soon had their reward.

It was Stephen Smith who doubled their lead just four minutes after the restart.

The hosts managed to rally and Matthew Bourne halved the deficit for Faversham on 65 minutes, but they could not find an equaliser. Sevenoaks Town moved away from the bottom of the table after a 2-0 victory over Hythe Town.

Two second-half goals within nine minutes from William Johnson-Cole and Frankie Sawyer gave Sevenoaks only their second win of the season and assured three vital points were secured.

The win was extra special for former Crystal Palace youngster Johnson-Cole, finding the net on his home debut for the club.
