A SOUR NOTE FOR BREWERS

- By Jay Taylor

FRUSTRATION was the theme once again for

Tadcaster Albion as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Taddy went looking to recover from their midweek defeat at the hands of Markse United but were forced to settle for a point as they were reined in by the Steels.

After a sluggish start, Taddy took the lead on 32 minutes after Harry Coates kept a corner kick alive, allowing Casey Stewart to tap in his fourth goal of the season.

However, the visitors were level on 58 minutes as Scott Ruthven’s freekick took a wicked deflection, leaving Michael Ingham with no chance whatsoever.

As Albion started to throw everything at their opponents, a massive moment of controversy went against the home side.

Lamin Colley wheeled away in celebration after flicking over the line to restore his team’s advantage – or so he thought.

However, the effort was chalked off for an infringement, much to the dismay of the Brewers.

The visiting Steels had to play the final 14 minutes with ten men after Tyler Williams was given his marching orders for a nasty challenge on Coates.

But that didn’t deter the iron-willed visitors, who hung on for a point to keep themselves one

ahead of Tadcaster, who find themselves 14th in the Division One East table. Elsewhere, Pickering

Town moved up to 18th after second-half strikes from Josh Greening and Ryan Blott handed them a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Wisbech Town.

Blott went close to giving the home side the lead but fired wide on the quarter-hour mark after he was teed up by Joe Dunnett.

Lewis Taylor attempted to take matters into his own hands as he embarked on a blistering solo run but was denied by the Wisbech goalie with eight minutes of the first half to go.

However, Pickering would finally make the breakthrough with 56 minutes on the clock, Greening turning the visitors’ defence inside and out before slotting home clinically.

Shortly afterwards, Joe Danby was taken down in the area and Blott grasped the opportunity to double his team’s advantage with both hands, converting from 12 yards.

The hosts could have extended their lead, Ged Dalton drawing a fingertip save from the Wisbech stopper but Greening and Blott’s efforts were more than enough to seal a welcome three points for a buoyant Pickering.
