ROBINS IN RARE CLIP OF WINGS BY EAGLES

BRACKNELL TOWN 1 BEDFONT SPORTS 1

- By Ricky Simons

BRACKNELL’S run of 22 straight league wins came to an end against Bedford Sports at a damp Larges Lane.

A late equaliser from Liam Ferdinand did, however, complete an exceptional week for the midfielder.

Ferdinand and Robins team-mate Joe Grant were called up by the FA to play for England in an ambassadorial game against the Falkland Islands in November.

Ferdinand and Gavin James combined to create a chance early on but Seb Bowerman’s effort failed to trouble the keeper.

A relatively quiet first half sparked into life on 42 minutes when Eagles stopper Josh Richardson kept out Seb Bowerman’s driven effort from the edge of the box with a lunging right boot.

Just a minute later, a mixup between Robins player/manager Carl Davies and keeper Mark Scott let Scott Harris stroll in on goal.

Davies got back to try and prevent the goal but brought down Harris in the process and referee Lisa Benn pointed to the spot.

Scott redeemed himself by going the right way and keeping out Harris’ penalty but Harris had his goal a minute later, sliding in to turn in an effort at the back post to give the Eagles the lead at half-time.

A resolute Bedfont back line continued to frustrate the Robins in the second half, limiting them to just a smattering of half-chances.

The Eagles came close to doubling their lead on 81 minutes when Charlie Postance ran in behind but a fine double save from Scott kept it at 1-0.

But two minutes from time, the visitors’ Ferdinand broke Eagles hearts, firing low past Richardson from Joe Grant's flick-on.
