ACE HYLTON IS JERMAINE MAN AGAIN FOR MOORS

- By David Lawrence

A LUKE Maxwell goal seven minutes from time handed Solihull Moors the spoils at the end of a nervewracking encounter that saw them come under heavy second half pressure.

Jermaine Hylton had fired them into an interval lead but with the wind at their backs after the break Ebbsfleet threatened to turn the tables particularly after an unfortunate own goal from Moors defender Alex Gudger.

Solihull manager Tim Flowers was delighted with the three points and the way the visitors started the second half.

He said: “It was scrappy to say the least and the conditions were far from perfect for football. We had the wind behind us in the first half and probably had more territory and half chances and went in 1-0 up thanks to a great finish from Jermaine [Hylton].

“The second half was the reverse and we got pinned back from minute one. I thought the equaliser was coming if I’m honest and then at 1-1 it was a test for us. We made a couple of changes to freshen things up and we’ve then scored a great goal through Luke [Maxwell] – a super finish from him to beat the keeper at the near post – and fortunately for us we’ve managed to get a wellearned three points.”

Hylton missed a glorious chance to open the scoring for the Moors on 15 minutes, breaking clear of the Fleet defence only to fluff his lines in front of goal to give keeper Nathan Ashmore the chance to collect. But he made no mistake three minutes later when, following good work from Danny Wright, he nipped into the area, wrong-footed his marker and drilled the ball into the roof of the net. The visitors struggled to create much against the wind but the second half saw them come to the fore and they dominated for long periods. Corey Whitely prodded an effort against the post and there were shouts for a penalty soon after when Dean Rance appeared to be clipped just as he was taking aim. The lively Luke Coulson was denied by an outstanding challenge from Tyrone Williams, before Ebbsfleet’s pressure finally told on 59 minutes when Danny Kedwell’s free-kick cannoned around the area before ending up in the back of the net off Gudger. But the goal appeared to galvanise the home side and it was Maxwell who hit the winner on 83 minutes to keep Solihull in the leading pack. Fleet boss Daryl McMahon said: “We created numerous chances in the second half. We’ve hit the post and I thought we should have had a penalty so it’s disappointing not to at least get a point out of the game but we’ll lick our wounds and get ready for next week.”
