The Non-League Football Paper

WIN! A COPY OF THE CARD AT XMAS!

-

REGULAR readers of Steve Hill’s back page column may be aware that he has written a book. The Card:

Every Match, Every Mile is published by Ockley Books and charts Hill’s heroic attempt to attend every single Chester FC match of an entire season.

Steve also sets himself the task of being in the stadium for every minute of the action, thus completing the feted Card and earning himself a place in history and the eternal respect of his fellow fans. There’s one slight snag: Hill lives in London, some 200 miles from the pristine playing surface of The Deva Stadium.

Accompanied by his trusty driver, what follows is a tragicomic travelogue from Gateshead to Torquay and all points in between, a 15,000-mile journey into the heart of The National League, encompassing a variety of planes, trains and automobiles.

Genuinely hilarious, it’s a rip-roaring read and an absolute must for any NonLeague fan, or indeed any football fan, or simply anybody who can read.

As well as the laughs and the pathos, it’s also a telling story of how football in this country has changed irrevocably, with Non-League perhaps providing the final bastion of the true spirit of the sport. Indeed, the judges of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year were so impressed that they stuck The Card on this year’s longlist, along with such lesser names as Jenson Button and former Arsenal striker Alan Smith.

To celebrate this fantastic achievement, The NonLeague Paper has five copies of The Card to give away. To be in with a chance of winning an historic first edition, simply email nlp@greenwayspublishing.co.uk and answer this simple question: What football club does William Hill Sports Book of the Year-nominated author Steve Hill support?
