WALSH IS A WINNER TO ROCKS

Late strike shakes Angels

- By Jim Rowe

MASON Walsh had a stunning late nonleague day present for league leaders Tonbridge in a game between sides who will surely both be involved in the promotion shake up.

His 90th-minute 25-yard screamer left unbeaten Bognor two points behind Tonbridge as the table-top looks increasingly tight.

Rocks number two Robbie Blake told The NLP: “I thought we were the better team in the first half but it was more even in the second.

“We were pressure once they got their equaliser. But the winner in stoppage-time was reward for our efforts over the match.”

The Angels took the immediate initiative with decent chances falling to Adem Ramadan and Jared Small

But the Rocks reacted, Walsh coming close with a header, followed by a Bradley Lethbridge effort , all inside eight minutes.

Tommy Whitnell should have done better after latch-

ing onto a short Bognor back pass but he made amends on 20 minutes blocking Harvey Whyte’s effort.

After some good Bognor possession, the Angels came close twice in four minutes. Alex Read screwed Joe Turner’s cross wide on 30 minutes and Jared Small fired wide from a tight angle after Rocks keeper Dan Lincoln briefly went walkabout

The high quality football continued after the break with chances falling for Lethbridge and Tonbridge’s James Folkes within three minutes of the restart.

And three minutes later, Bognor broke the deadlock when Lethbridge nipped in ahead of Sonny Miles to find the net.

But the Angels responded well, coming much more into the game, putting the Bognor defence under pressure.

And in the 67th minute, Ramadan combined with Turner to set up Read who fired past Lincoln.

The momentum seemed to be with the hosts but there was a long late stoppage after a foul on Tonbridge keeper Jonathan Henly.

And Bognor took full advantage when Walsh fired his 25-yarder past sub keeper Stewart Copeland.

Angels boss Steve McKimm admitted: “We were a bit tentative in the first half with one of two players hiding. But in the second half we played much more to our potential.” STAR MAN: Harvey Whyte (Bognor Regis Town) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
