MORGAN FIRES NASH TO WIN ON THE ROAD

- By Paul Edwards

LEAMINGTON 0 CURZON ASHTON 1

LEAMINGTON slipped to a frustrating defeat against Curzon Ashton courtesy of a controversial fifth minute penalty.

The Brakes players were furious as Jamie Hood was penalised for an alleged shove inside the box, opposing player Ryan Brooke going to ground very easily.

Adam Morgan stepped up to drill the spot kick into the net, sending Tony Breeden the wrong way.

Strong winds also contributed to spoiling a game that was never very pretty to watch. Callum Gittings’ low drive straight at keeper Ben Purdham was Leamington’s first effort on goal.

Curzon came close to a second when they broke quickly from their own half, Oliver Crankshaw driving in a low shot from the edge of the box that was kept out superbly by a strong arm from Breeden.

A fantastic, potentially goal-saving, block from Daniel Shaw denied Matt Stenson as he shaped to pull the trigger inside the box on the right.

Cameron McJannett somehow cleared an Edwards header from underneath the crossbar as Brakes continued to press.

But Breeden was required to make another top drawer save as the visitors almost doubled their lead late on, though one goal proved enough for victory.
