Clever City ease past Rangers

- By Patrick Lock

OXFORD CITY 2 CONCORD RANGERS 0

A GOAL in each half was enough for Oxford City to run out winners against a strong and organised Concord Rangers outfit.

Josh Ashby's free kick gave the hosts the advantage with the final kick of the first half before Rob Sinclair capitalised on a goalkeeping error to double the lead.

Both sides looked to control possession in the early stages, wayward pot-shots from Reece Fleet and Danny Green the highlights of opening 15 minutes.

City's Sinclair went close with a blocked effort from 12 yards before Sam Blackman forced the first save of the game from Craig King.

The half seemed set to end goalless Ashby bamboozled goalkeeper Sam Beasant with a composed finish into the unguarded side of the net from a free kick.

The quiet first half looked set to be matched by the second, only sparking into life with 20 minutes remaining. Having made two fine saves just minutes before, Concord 'keeper Beasant went on an ill-fated dash outside of his box only to be beaten to the ball by a blue and white shirt. A pinpoint cross picked out Sinclair to calmly stroke home.

The goal caused a veritable bombardment of the City box but the defence, ably supported by the unbeatable King, held firm. STAR MAN: Udoka Godwin-Malife (OC) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
