TORQUAY HAVEN’T BINNED JOHNSON JUST YET!
FOOTBALL managers often get told their teams are a load of rubbish – but Torquay United boss Gary Johnson didn’t expect to hear it on the radio after a case of the wrong phone number.
Johnson thought he was going on BBC Radio Cornwall on Thursday to talk about his National League South side.
But the first question he was asked by presenter Laurence Reed wasn’t about the Gulls. The producer had accidentally dialled Johnson’s number when meaning to get the owner of a skip company on the line.
Johnson must have thought he was part of a wind-up, but the confusion was eventually cleared up as Reed finally realised he was speaking to the Torquay chief.
“That’s exactly who I am,” Johnson said. “Unless the board have stuck me in a skip and had me taken away!”
Johnson took the reins last month following the departure of Gary Owers, who was in charge for last season’s relegation.
