SUFFERING IN SILENCE
HOW sad it was to see Thamesmead Town fold this week. It just goes to show how difficult it is to run a football club at this level these days. Due to falling attendances, Mead made just £11 from their two home games once officials were paid. There’s no wonder that the chairman, suffering from ill health himself, had no choice but to pull the plug. This week, Burton Albion rushed to the aid of another struggling club, Nuneaton Borough, by donating their share of the proceeds from their Birmingham Senior Cup tie to help the troubled club.
