STONES PAY PENALTY FOR A LATE MISS

- By Sam Watts

SUTTON UNITED scored a last-gasp winner to knock Wealdstone out after the home side missed a 90thminute penalty.

Wealdstone went ahead and Sutton equalised, both via spot-kicks. But Stones’ second penalty was saved and Aaron Drinan won it in the 93rd minute.

David Pratt earned a first opportunity for Wealdstone, heading straight at the keeper. Pratt spearheaded the attack but Fumnaya Shomotun was their best asset trying to create opportunities.

Sutton threw players forward and Kieron Cadogan hit the bar. Relentless pressure led to a mix-up and Sutton felt they should have had a penalty for a pull back on Cadogan.

Stones were firing on all cylinders at the start of the second half. Shomotun crossed for Rhys Tyler, who was fouled for a clear penalty, slammed home by Bradley Bubb.

Sutton pressed for an equaliser and got it on 63 minutes, Jamie Collins tucking the ball away. Sutton squandered several chances, and Wealdstone profited on the break.

Pratt met a cross but Butler was equal to it before Bubb fired over.

The referee gave a third penalty but Bubb’s kick was saved and Craig Eastmond fed Drinan who slotted home to win the tie.
