PENALTY CLANGER SO COSTLY

- By Ryan Batty

A REFEREEING controversy took centre-stage as Nantwich Town and Workington AFC played to a scoreless draw.

While both sides had plenty of chances, none were clearer than when, in the 56th minute, Callum Saunders was hauled down. The referee rejected all protests despite shouts of anger.

Saunders and Joel Stair both had chances cleared off the line after 21 minutes following Louis Barnes' free-kick.

Conor Tinnion dinked the ball over the defence just after the hour mark, though it was a tad too far for Jason Walker to reach.

Craig Lindfield put the ball in the net after 69 minutes, as Morgan's cross found the winger sliding it home. However, the assistant had raised his flag for offside.

Joe Mwasile's superb run soon after saw his shot parried by Aaron Taylor, who could have been sent off earlier in the game, but Aaron Knight wasn't able to tap home despite the open net.

However, that was all she wrote at the Weaver Stadium as an entertaining scoreless draw saw both teams share the points.
