JONES SAVES LILYWHITES

- By Francesca Doran

ADAM Jones’ second half strike was enough to salvage a point for Mossley as they drew with Radcliffe at Seal Park.

Rick Smith opened the scoring for Radcliffe in the 11th minute after he leapt highest from a Scott Metcalfe corner to powerfully head into the net.

Mossley probed for much of the game but failed to create many clear-cut opportunities.

They had to wait until 19 minutes from time when Jones lashed into the roof of the net from inside the penalty area to the delight of the home support. The match was marred by ugly scenes at the end when Mossley’s Steve Mason was shown a red card after butting heads with Prince Haywood.

The result keeps Mossley within the play-offs but they drop down to fourth position.
