Church get better of a familiar foe

- By Lewis Glennon

ALVECHURCH claimed a third league win in a row in comfortable style against struggling Bedworth.

The last time these sides met it was an historic occasion for Alvechurch, with a 0-0 draw sealing promotion to the Southern Premier. Bedworth followed them through the play-offs, but theyhave made contrasting starts.

Bedworth have yet to win in the league this season but looked for a quick start. Jake Whitemore fired wide, while former Alvechurch forward Daniel Dubidat sliced his shot with the goal at his mercy.

These misses proved crucial as Alvechurch hit back. Aaron Lloyd fired wide after a scramble before two goals in four minutes put them in control.

Dave Bellis timed his run to perfection to meet Josh March’s pull-back, before Mitch Botfield headed in Zack Foster’s cross for his third goal in as many games.

The second half had little action, though both teams missed good chances.

Josh March was denied by Bedworth’s Adam Harrison, while Paul Evans saved from Luke Rowe. Bradley Maslen-Jones hit the post for Bedworth, but the most eventful moment was referee Bradley Hall not realising Bedworth had made four subs.
