Regis denied by stubborn Margate

- By Liam Goodley

BOGNOR Regis were made to rue several missed chances as they were held to a goalless draw against ten-man Margate.

On four minutes Rocks created a chance when a chipped pass by Tommy Block found Mason Walsh on the left and he cut inside the box before firing the ball off the left lost and out for a corner.

Francis Collin fired Margate’s first chance straight at Dan Lincoln in response before Jimmy Muitt's right-sided cross found Doug Tuck who smashed it well over the bar.

Chris Barnard combined with Collin before the striker smashed another attempt over the bar from outside the box on 11 minutes.

Bognor had the first chance of the second half as the short corner by Muitt picked out Joe Tomlinson who struck it early and forced Henry Newcombe into a fine diving save pushing the ball away.

Lee Prescott’s curling cross from the right saw him find Collin but he headed wide after peeling off his marker on 80 minutes.

Bognor then sprang on the counter following that attack with Jimmy Wild leading the charge but he was clearly fouled on 80 minutes by Thomas Mills who was given his marching orders.

But Regis could not find a way through the determined Margate side and had to settle for a point and a place in the play-offs.
