POLICE PROBE REFEREE ASSAULT
HERTFORDSHIRE police confirmed this week that enquires were ongoing after a Spartan South Midlands League match between Oxhey Jets and Cockfosters was abandoned last weekend when a Cockfosters player struck a match after being shown a red card.
The precise details surrounding how and why the incident unfolded are unclear, but Cockfosters were quick to issue an official statement last Saturday.
The Enfield-based club tweeted: “Cockfosofficial ters Football Club is aware of the abandonment of our first team game at Oxhey Jets.
“As a club we strongly condemn any assault on any one, let alone a match official.
“Once the exact nature of the incident becomes clear we will take the strongest action possible”.
