Carey is the hero as Rooks triumph

- By James Boyes

TWO goals inside the last 15 minutes helped Lewes beat Folkestone Invicta and notch up a first league win at home this season.

Two fine saves from Folkestone keeper Tim Roberts kept Luke Blewden at bay in the first 20 minutes before he made a double save from Ronnie Conlon and Jonte Smith in the same move.

Lewis Carey pushed away Kieron McCann’s powerful shot before the 32nd minute penalty save from Adam Yusuff, after the striker was brought down by Stacey Freeman.

The Lewes keeper continued his heroics two minutes later with an acrobatic save from Kane Rowland which looked destined to put Invicta ahead.

Two minutes from the interval, Smith had his own great chance for Lewes but his effort fell wide.

The Lewes keeper was called on again in the second half, this time by Michael Everitt’s powerful run which ended with a Carey save.

The Rooks went ahead in the 76th minute when Omarr Lawson found Thomas Day volleying past Roberts.

Five minutes later the lead doubled thanks to sub Declan Appau, who played in sub Dan Darbyshire to seal the win.
