THE GREENS HOLD FIRM TO WIN A A THRILLER

- By David Ballheimer

HENDON made it five straight league wins as they held off a spirited Wimborne Town.

Hendon got off to a great start when Romario Jonas prodded the ball into the net with his lower abdomen as he met a cross from Shaquille HippolytePatrick.

Stefan Penny nearly equalised three minutes later but Danny Boness made a great save. The equaliser arrived four minutes later however when Toby Holmes beat the offside trap and fired home.

For the next 20-odd minutes, both teams did their level best to fail to take chances that came to them. The worst miss was probably from Matt Oldring, who fired over the Hendon bar when unmarked ten yards out.

The prolific Ricardo German had been denied by Gerard Benfield earlier but he made no mistake when put through by HippolytePatrick ten minutes before the break.

Hippolyte-Patrick was denied by a brilliant save from Benfield but then scored after a misplaced pass from a Wimborne defender fell straight to him.

Franklyn Clarke scored at the second attempt after his penalty had been saved by Boness but Jonas and Luke Tingey held the Hendon defence together as they held out for all three points in north London.
