McAULEY IS LYNN HERO WITH LATE EQUALISER

- By Greg Plummer

A LAST-GASP goal from Rory McAuley earned King’s Lynn a late point.

McAuley rose highest to head home a free-kick which cancelled out Declan Rogers’ opener after the break.

Home striker Michael Gash made space for himself but blazed over the woodwork, while Aaron Jones had the ball in the net for Lynn before it was ruled out for offside.

The best opportunity of an open first half came when Harry Limb directed a Ryan Hawkins centre straight at Ben Heath, who was relieved to see the ball go out for a corner rather than into the back of his net.

Gash watched an effort deflect off the boot of Jack Westbrook and fly over the bar – and there was still time for Jack Bowen's effort to come back off the post for Diamonds as an entertaining first 45 minutes came to a close.

Limb’s dipping effort was acrobatically tipped over by Heath at the other end.

Minutes after seeing his long-range effort whistle over, Rogers opened the scoring with a cracker from 25 yards.

Gash had a header saved by Heath before the keeper denied Michael Clunan with another superb stop.

Lynn were close to failing to score at home for the third successive game when McAuley gave them a lifeline.
