UNITED’S RED CARD DOUBLE IS THE KEY

- By Craig Stoddart

DARLINGTON 1 BOSTON UNITED 0

DARLINGTON made it two wins in a row for the first time this season by beating Boston United, who had two men sent off.

Ben Middleton saw red midway through the first half, and just before full-time goalkeeper George Willis was dismissed too.

To make matters worse for Boston, they scored the only goal of the game too, Ashley Jackson inadvertently putting the ball over his own goal line.

It came in the 11th minute after good work by Harvey Saunders. He took the ball away from Middleton and crossed to where Simon Ainge slid in and hit the post, but the ball rebounded and Jackson was unable to prevent scoring an own goal.

Soon after, Middleton received a straight red card for a foul on Jordan Nicholson.

Boston played 3-4-2 and the set-piece delivery of Ben Davies to strikers Gregg Smith and Gavin Allott meant the visitors remained dangerous.

Boston substitute Andre Johnson could not reach a ball that Allott fired across goal, but with five minutes to go the contest was as good as over when Willis saw red.He raced out of his area, but pacey Saunders got there first and Willis’ late challenge meant a second red card of the game.
